Sustainability and Preservation

San Juan Ventures (SJV) is dedicated to sustainability and preservation. We are always looking for ways to streamline our operations to increase manufacturing efficiency and minimize material waste so that we leave a lighter environmental footprint. SJV has both a passion for and commitment to honoring the local environment from which we source our beautiful materials. SJV respects Indonesia as a land rich with abundant natural resources and strives to preserve their availability by actively sourcing reclaimed, sustainable and environmentally conscious materials.
Reclaimed Woods

SJV reclaims its Fine Imported Woods from a variety of unusual resources. Our reclaimed Teak originates from old Indonesian ‘jooglos’ (elevated housing used by the locals) where it once served as original flooring, or from the beams or foundations supports of old factories or mills. Our sourcing agents also reclaim Teak and Sonokeling from old, unsafe bridges in Java and Sumatra that transportation authorities are replacing with newer, safer structures.
Sustainably Harvested Woods

Many of our wood slabs are sourced from discarded fruit trees (Mango, Lychee, Klengkeng, Nangka, Tamarind, etc.) past their fruit-bearing years, then replaced with new saplings. These specimen trees are at their most mature and have reached their optimal sizes but might otherwise simply be used as firewood. Additionally, through local relationships throughout the region, we purchase large, old growth slabs from Indonesian families who, knowing the value of these large wood specimens, pass pieces from generation to generation and often sell them as investments. SJV also works with our regional connections to buy fallen trees as well.
